L.B. Johnson Middle School Reviews

Great school! LBJ has wonderful leadership, skilled teachers and many, many, many systems to connect parents to what is really happening at school. I appreciate the enforcement of the school rules. I can't even imagine how difficult it is to maintain such a high level of safety balanced with good academic programs. This school has many interventions, like lunch detention to help with the enforcement of school rules. My only complaint would be the number of transfer students crowding the classrooms.

There is a serious lack of communication at this school on all levels including student/faculty and parent/faculty. Response time is poor if there is a response at all. Parent/Teacher conferences were a joke. Staff try to pacify parents rather than find solutions. Great teachers are few.

this school needs to focus more on these kids academic needs and keeping in touch with parents instead of their dress code. I have made several calls to teachers with no responds.

The 'quality' of education at LBJ is seriously lacking, unfortunately. The administration's focus should be redirected toward the hiring and retention of competent, motivating teachers, and away from 'policing' the dress code--which seems to be the principal's top priority. It's sad that the good teachers are leaving LBJ for other schools in the district. Additionally, I have attempted to contact the principal (phone and in person) and either she is not there, or never returned my calls. I'm not alone in this complaint. This school definitely needs new leadership and greater parent involvement.

This shcool needs to focus more on the academic focus than on the dress code and needs to be more welcoming to the students in both classrooms and in the office.

I've had two children attend LBJ, and although SOME of the teachers have been fantastic, the classrooms are crowded and the teachers seem to be overwhelmed and unable to provide individual attention when needed. Communication between parents and the school is ridiculous--thank God for the email news, as reaching anyone there (principal, etc.) is impossible. Even teachers have commented to me that everything there is 'a secret' and even faculty is left in the dark. If the focus of the staff/faculty could be redirected from the dress code to academics, that would be a much-needed start to improving this school. I wish I could have transferred my kids to one of the several better NE Heights schools. Luckily, we are hands-on parents who supplement our childrens' education ourselves. If we solely depended on LBJ, as many working parents must do, our kids would be left at a tremendous disadvantage.

School must do more to get parents involved.

I love a lot of things about LBJ. Marcie Johnson is a great principal who has done a lot for our school. I like the uniforms, but agree that it is extremely frustrating when the school continually changes the policy when a few students abuse parts of it(ruins it fo everyone!). The parent e-mail list is great! I also wish the school would give the e-mail list moderator all school info/announcements. I dislike the lunch detention policy! It seems the janitors give out excessive lunch detentions to students in order to do as little work as possible (i.e. keep the cafeteria clean). It's ridiculous that a student can be given a week's worth of detention because a scrap of paper from their lunch was left behind. I don't know of any student who has left LBJ without having lunch detention at least once! My child has had mostly great teachers (with a couple of clunkers along the way). Despite a few annoyances, I am happy with LBJ.

LBJ is a terrific school. I am most impressed with the quality of courses offered. Our principal is continually pushing for cutting edge classes and has high expectations for our kids. She is a warm, compassionate and highly skilled leader! The staff works to make LBJ a safe environment. I feel like my child is getting a wonderful education! I wish more parents would get involved.
