Albuquerque Indoor Karting: Get ready to go!

Apr 6, 2010

Helmet On!   Seatbelt Tight! Curl [or Grasp] your fingers firmly about that steering wheel and poise your foot above the gas pedal … Get Ready to Go! In a few seconds, you will learn if you are indeed faster than everyone else who has raced that day, … that week, … or even that month.

Albuquerque Indoor Karting offers competitive-style go-kart racing for those daring individuals who are at least seven years old and 51 inches tall on up to full adults! During peak times, junior racers will race in their own heat for safety reasons. Drivers at least 14 years old and 55 inches tall can race in the faster GT3 karts. The new supercarts, that have 35 percent more torque and horsepower, are reserved for drivers who have purchased a membership and have successfully raced the GT3 karts at least seven times. The supercarts average 30 miles per hour, but can reach top speeds of 50 to 60 miles per hour on straight-a-ways.

As the karts zip around the track, a relay sends a signal immediately to the computer and the lap times are displayed on a monitor in the waiting area. Then, after the race, each driver gets an individualized printout of their times and how they rank against all drivers that day, that week and that month. Soon, members will even be able to go online to track their best lap times and compare them to the other 16,000 members in Albuquerque.

Each heat lasts 10 minutes. Most adults will complete between 12 to 18 laps during the heat.

As an added bonus, Albuquerque Indoor Karting now offers driver's education -- with drive time in real cars -- and provides free go-karting to students during the breaks.

HelloAlbuquerque Tip: The snack bar at the track has several flavors of freshly made gelato daily that, by itself, is worth the stop.
